City Sets Date For Annual Garage Sale And Youth ‘Program Squeeze The Day’

Posted in:

The City of Seminole has set the date for the annual City-Wide Garage Sale, which is hosted by the Seminole Producer, to take place June third through fifth. In addition to this longtime Seminole tradition, the city has planned to begin a new program called “Squeeze the Day” for kids 12 and under, which was designed to foster a sense of entre preneurial spirit among participants by encouraging them to host their own lemonade stands.

Participants in the City-Wide Garage Sale will have their permit fees waived, as has been approved by the Seminole City Council, however, it will still be necessary to obtain a sale permit from the water office for that weekend.

As for Squeeze the Day, participants will face no charge for taking part, but will need to fill out a permit which can be found on the City of Seminole’s website.

Those who fill out the permit will be able to compete in three different contests included in the program: Best Lemonade in Seminole, Best Stand in Seminole, and Entrepreneur of Seminole. Creativity is encouraged when it comes to planning a stand, as the online instructions affirmed, “We want Squeeze the Day to be a program that you and your family enjoy, so we en-courage you to make your lemonade stand your own unique design.”

In order to personalize the project while still getting the most out of the entrepreneurial opportunity which it offers, the city has added a checklist to keep in mind throughout the process which includes reminders to make a business plan, complete a permit application, pick up the free permit from the municipal building, fill out the online registration form, market the stand, open the stand and make a profit, and to keep in mind the contests available to participants. Additional advice for completing this suggested planning process can be found with the online guide offered on the city website.
