City of Seminole Declares Civil Emergency
A meeting was held Monday night where Seminole Mayor Jeff Griffin addressed primary service providers in the Seminole area. At this meeting, the Mayor announced that he was signing a civil emergency declaration covering the entire city limits. This declaration is in line with what is happening through the Governor’s office and other municipalities across the state and nation.
There were three main goals for this meeting: Get input from these service providers who will be looked upon to protect the public. Get the word out to service providers that the Mayor and City will do everything in our power to support them as we work to limit the impact of this virus in Seminole. Provide a network whereby these providers can better communicate among each other.
Due to the health and safety concerns surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the City of Seminole will be closing city-owned facilities and all corresponding events and encouraging residents to practice social distancing. These closures and cancellations will begin Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at midnight and will remain in effect until lifted by the Mayor. The Mayor and City of Seminole is closely monitoring the situation and will make adjustments as deemed necessary. The City-owned facilities that will close during this time are as follows: Reynolds Wellness Center, Seminole Public Library, Seminole Heritage House, Seminole Recreation (facilities and events) including sports leagues.
City employees will report to work as usual, but city offices will be closed to the public. The city employees will be accepting phone calls during normal working hours.
“We are monitoring the situation closely, and we encourage you to follow the recommendations of the CDC and Oklahoma State Health Department,” stated Mayor Jeff Griffin.
Water bills must be paid by phone, dropbox, or online. For questions call the water department at (405) 382-0518. Garage sale permits must be purchased over the phone.
Meals on Wheels will remain operational. Lunch pick up is available for those that normally eat on site at Heritage House. Sportsman Lake will remain open to individuals as long as social distancing protocols are kept; no group activity allowed. Outdoor walking track and parks will remain open for individual use only; no group activity allowed.
Based upon the guidance provided by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), the City of Seminole is encouraging all of its citizens to adhere to the following protocol:
Wash your hands thoroughly.
Use alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover your cough and sneezes to prevent others from getting sick.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Keep surfaces clean by wiping hem down with a household disinfectant.
Stay at home if you are sick.
