City Sees Bump in Sales, Use Tax Revenue
The City of Seminole realized gains in both local sales tax and use tax revenue with the September distribution from the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC).
According to the OTC, the city received a sales tax distribution of $523,558.92, a nearly eight percent increase over this time last year when the amount was $486,394.26. Use tax revenue, which is based largely on purchases made online, totaled $60,546.41, up 35 percent over last September’s amount of $44,923.8. This month’s distribution was based primarily on July business.
Sales tax receipts rebounded for Seminole in August after being down slightly in July. Last month, the city received $518,988.03, a 3.5 percent increase over August 2020 when the amount was $501,420.36. The use tax distribution totaled $63,822.66, up 35.58 percent over last August, when the city received $47,074.04.
Revenue was also up for Seminole County with the September OTC distribution. Sales tax receipts totaled $270,292.87, a 13 percent increase over last September’s amount of $240,255.68. The use tax distribution of $40,112.92 was up 34 percent over September 2020 when the amount was $30,035.53.

The September distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from July business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from July 16 – 31 and estimated sales from Aug. 1 – 15.
