Chieftains Have Their ups And Downs on Homecoming
Bill Anderson Courtesy Writer Friday night was homecoming for the Seminole Chieftains as they hosted the Okemah Panthers. The Seminole Lady Chieftains had just come off of the Okemah tournament where the Lady Chieftains battled the # 11 Lady Panthers but could not pull out the victory.
Now, the Lady Chieftains were on their home court, and they were going to fight for a different turnout. The first quarter was a tough struggle for the lead, but the Lady Panthers edged out a 4 point lead. Seminole had kept the game close but in the second quarter, the Lady Panthers pulled away with their defensive pressure and had the lead at the half with a score of 33-20. The Lady Panthers still had that momentum going into the third. The Lady Chieftains tried to keep up but the offensive attack of Okemah was too much. Okemah was leading 55-32 going into the final quarter and the Lady Chieftains had no answer. The Okemah Lady Panthers pulled out back-to-back victories over Seminole. This time with a score of 67-37.
Scoring for the Seminole Lady Chieftains was Holli Ladd with 11 points, Alexia Rideaux with 10 points and Sharia Dennis and Aundrea Tagg both scoring 5.
The Seminole Chieftain boys also were just coming back from the Okemah tournament where the Chieftains won the 66 Conference Tournament. Now, the Panthers came to Chieftain territory. The first quarter was a very good match-up between the teams. The Chieftains went on a 14-10 run in the first to take the lead.
Seminole stuck to their game plan in the second and edged out Okemah again to go up 28-21 at the half.
The Okemah Panthers regrouped and fired back in the third to try and close the gap with 19 points scored. The Panthers were now within 5 points of a tie. Seminole turned on their afterburners and lit up the scoreboard in the fourth and didn’t look back. The Seminole Chieftains won at home on homecoming with a final score of 64-53. Scoring for the Chieftains were Braylin Jefferson with 17 points, Shallomar Stephens and Yuro Sewell both with 13 points each.
Next up for Seminole is Tecumseh on the 28th. This is an away game. The next home game will be Prague on the 31st.
