Chest Bump on Police Officer Leads to Felony Charges

Posted in:

A Hughes County man is facing two felony charges after he allegedly assaulted a Seminole Police officer and later urinated in a police cruiser as he was being transported to jail.

Steven Chlouber, 63, of Calvin was arrested on Jan. 16 and has been charged with assault and battery upon a police officer and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction. The charges were formally filed on Feb. 2 in Seminole County District Court.

According to an affidavit, Officer Gabriel Wind of the Seminole Police Department was dispatched to Braum’s on Saturday, Jan. 16 on reports of a two-vehicle accident in the store’s drive-thru.

Wind made contact with one of the drivers involved in the accident, identified as Steven Chlouber, who said that since the accident happened on private property, he and the other driver were going to exchange informa tion.

According to the affidavit, when Wind asked Chlouber for his driver’s license, he began to curse and said, “Don’t try and make this into something it’s not.”

Chlouber said he was going to get in his truck and leave, and when Wind stepped in front of him, Chlouber allegedly bumped Wind with his chest and said, ‘’Well, let’s get it on.”

Wind placed Chlouber on restraints and placed him in the backseat of his police vehicle.

An inventory of Chlouber’s vehicle yielded a pistol and a cup containing a brown liquid that smelled like alcohol.

As Chlouber was being transported to jail, he said he needed to use the restroom and could not hold it any longer. According to the affidavit, Chlouber pulled his trousers down and urinated in the floorboard of the vehicle.

The felony assault charge was levied against Chlouber because of the chest bump incident on the day of his arrest. The weapons charge stems from a 2008 conviction of assault with a dangerous weapon in Logan County. Under state law, those with felony convictions are not permitted to possess a firearm.
