Casting Call Issued For ‘Rez Ball’ Film Co-written by Harjo

A casting call has been released seeking actors to play Native American high school basketball players in an upcoming Netflix feature film titled “Rez Ball.”

The film is being produced by Lebron James and The SpringHill Company and Wise Entertainment. It was written and will be directed by Sydney Freeland, and co-written by Sterlin Harjo, who most area residents already know created the hit series, Reservation Dogs.

SpringHill Company produced a number of feature films including “Hustle,” starring Adam Sandler as a disgraced NBA scout that hopes to redeem himself after discovering a phenomenal streetball player from Spain. The film was ranked No. 1 on Netflix in 2022.

Wise Entertainment produced the six-time Emmy nominated drama series “East Los High,” which focuses on a group of teenagers during their final years at a fictional East Los Angeles high. The series has been praised for its all-Latino cast and crew.

The “Rez Ball” casting call is for both male and female speaking rolls. Applicants must be 18 or older by April 10, 2023, or a minor who has completed compulsory education or otherwise believes they are exempt from working hours restrictions in all relevant jurisdictions.

The call warns that these are paying roles, so anyone that intends to play NCAA basketball may be precluded from doing so under the NCAA eligibility rules, since they may no longer be considered an amateur.

Those that are interested in applying for a role are encouraged to email their information to rezballcasting@ gmail.com with the subject line being your first and last name and Rez Ball Player.

In the email itself, include: your name, height, phone number, email address, location (city and state, reservation, or community), tribal enrollment or affiliation, basketball experience, your availability March – June 2023, and a recent photo (headshot, cell phone photos – no filter, hats, or sunglasses).
