Carter, Day to Speak at Chamber Forum This Thursday

Seminole attorney Brad Carter and News on 6 Tulsa television news anchor Craig Day will be the featured speakers at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce monthly forum meeting on Thursday, Feb. 9. The luncheon program will begin at 12 p.m. in Foundation Hall of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on the campus of Seminole State College.

Carter and Day will be discussing their recent trip to France celebrating U.S. veterans’ contributions to liberating the country during World War II.

Colonel Carter, who serves as the Assistant Adjutant General for the Oklahoma National Guard, was part of a group from Oklahoma’s 45th infantry who visited the American Cemetery in Epinal, France, and attended Liberation Day ceremonies in several French towns and villages.

The trip celebrated efforts by the people of France to ensure American soldiers killed during World War II are honored and remembered.

Day and a photojournalist from News on 6 traveled with the group to document the trip as part of a Veterans Day tribute.

Carter graduated with honors from Seminole High School in 1988 where he was a member of a three-time State Championship Debate Team and President of his senior class. After receiving his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1992 and his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University in 1995, Carter returned to his lifelong home in Seminole to practice law.

He has been active in the Oklahoma legal community, serving on numerous boards and committees, including terms as a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association Committee on Legal Ethics. In 2011, he was appointed by the President of the Oklahoma Bar Association as Vice Chair of the OBA Military Assistance Task Force. At the local level, Carter has serve multiple terms as President of the Seminole County Bar Association and Law Day Chairman, as well as former prosecutor for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He has been serving as the Seminole City Attorney since 2002 and volunteers as counsel to many charitable and philanthropic organizations.

A member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard since he was a senior in high school, he is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and a recipient of the prestigious Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Strategic Studies form the U.S. Army War College. Day, also a 1988 graduate of Seminole High School, graduated from East Central University in 1992. He has been with KOTV News on 6 Tulsa, owned by Oklahoma based Griffin Communications for the past 20 years as an anchor and reporter. He serves as the weekday anchor for the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.

His news team has received four Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Best Newscast, Continuing Coverage, and Overall Excellence. They have also been the recipient of the National Edward R. Murrow Award and won an Emmy from the Heartland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Day’s personal reporting has been recognized by the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists, Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters and Texas and Louisiana broadcast associations. He was recognized as “Reporter of the Year” in Louisiana and honored for his coverage of news story of the year.

He has also received personal Emmy nominations for Breaking News, Spot News, General Assignment and Feature Reporting. He is the winner of multiple Redbud Awards from the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association for promoting the state of Oklahoma.

Day is a longtime volunteer narrator for the Oklahoma Library for the Blind. He is active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization and was awarded an Honorary Chapter FFA Degree by the organization. He is passionate about childhood literacy - reading to thousands of pre-k-elementary students.

The Forum program is open to the public. Cost for the meal is $10 per person.
