Campsite Reservations Now Allowed at Sportsman Lake

Posted in:

Lake Ranger Rob Robertson is a big part of Sportsman Lake staying at full capacity throughout the summer. He along with other city employees have made multiple improvements to the landscape, bathrooms, and camping pads.

“He has developed relationships with the regular campers and fisherman who stay there often. They often praise him for his hard work and going the extra mile for them,” said Community Development Director Sharon Emmitt with a proud smile.

In the past Sportsman Lake was a hidden gem for equestrian riders and fisherman. Now it doesn’t have an empty spot on the weekends.

Because the lake is so busy, The Lake Board voted to allow reservations among all campsites. In the past, they only allowed up to 3 reservations per day with few exceptions.

Lake Ranger Robertson said, “We have people who drive long distances to our lake just to find out there are no empty spaces to camp. Vacationers and tourists appreciate the Board’s new policy as it allows a comfort level, knowing they will have a space to park when they arrive on the campgrounds.”

“We are so proud that Sportsman Lake is doing so well. As budget allows, we want to make more improvements to the lake,” said Emmitt. “We strive to make it a family-friendly tourist destination in Oklahoma.”

The City encourages all residents to make a drive around Sportsman Lake to experience the excitement for themselves. On a sunny day, you will see fisherman, equestrians, swimmers, and people out and about enjoying the great outdoors.

Coon Hunter’s Lodge and two pavilions are available for rentals for weddings, parties and family reunions.

Ranger Robertson said, “I love my job. I get to be outside and take care of this place so others can enjoy it.”
