Baha Men To Bring the Bahamas To OKM’s 37th Season
Junkanoo stylings, pop sensibilities and Caribbean feels fuse in this Grammy award-winning, multi-platinum family of nine hailing from the Bahamas.
Baha Men will close out OKM’s 37th season with an exciting finale concert on Thursday, June 17 at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium. The evening begins with Tulsa saxophonist Grady Nichols at 6:00 p.m. with Baha Men scheduled to H perform at 7:30 p.m.
Approaching their 30th anniversary as a group, Baha Men rode a massive wave of success in the early 2000’s following the release of their hit single, ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ Featured in major motion pictures and chanted throughout sports stadiums around the globe, the group unleashed a revolutionary form of Caribbean pop that permeated American pop culture. asbel
“We are so excited to bring Baha Men to Bartlesville for OKM’s 37th season! With a following and reputation as large as theirs, we are in for a real treat,” said Mary Lynn Mihm, OKM Chairman of the Board.
Recognized by Rolling Stone as “Bahamian junkanoo pioneers,” the Baha Men continued to hit monumental milestones. With the support of Sony Music Entertainment, the group released ‘Night and Day’ and the track was selected to be featured alongside Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Santana and others during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Official Album.
Opening for Baha Men, Tulsa local Grady Nichols will perform an exciting opening performance to kick off the evening. Nichols has performed or shared the stage with everyone from the O’Jays and Bill Chaplin to Herb Alpert and Huey Lewis and the News. He has released seven albums, performed on television and cruise ships, and hosts an annual charity concert that has seen such performers as the Beach Boys.
In addition to great music, the festival finale concert will also have many local food trucks, as well as kids’ activities and games planned for the evening.
“This is going to be a great community concert to safely come together for fantastic music, great food, and a lot of fun,” said Mihm.
