ATV Accident Causes Fatality Friday Night

Posted in:

A fatality collision between an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a pickup truck occurred late Friday night in Seminole County.

Mark Thomas, 28, from Maud, was driving a Polaris RZR in rainy conditions westbound on County Road 1330, a dirt and gravel road approximately three-fifths east of Old Highway 99. Thomas went left of center and struck an eastbound Dodge pickup head-on around 11:10 p.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple injuries. Thomas was pinned for approximately two hours and 50 minutes following the accident.

A seatbelt was equipped in the ATV, but it is unknown if it was in use at the time of the accident. The ATV did not have any equipped air bags in the vehicle.

Kara Dew, of Ada, was driving the pickup truck and did not sustain any injuries. Air bags in the truck were not deployed during the collision.

The accident was investigated by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Keith Burch and assisted by Trooper Kenneth Duncan, Trooper Alan Fortner, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Seminole Nation Lighthorse and the Bowlegs Fire Department.

The condition of the driver and the cause of the collision are currently under investigation.
