Alumni visiting Wewoka for the annual WHS Reunion Weekend are invited to stop by the Seminole Nation Museum to view over 45 different works by 20 fellow graduates now on display through July 31.

The museum will host a reception to welcome visiting alumni on Saturday, June 26, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Executive Director of the Museum, Richard Ellwanger, said, “The Museum is very excited to welcome our Wewoka High School Alumni back this year! We are thrilled with the variety of amazing work that was submitted by our talented graduates for the 2021 show.”

The show contains work by 20 WHS Alumni Artists, including Cynthia (Cooper) Baker (’58); Carol Sue Gammons (‘58); Afton Qualls (‘69); Richard Billingsley (’66); David Redding (‘71); Sheila Joy Qualls (’77); Todd Robertson (‘80); Richard Ellwanger (86) and Keaton Esselstrom (2015), just to name a few! Join your friends and fellow graduates as we celebrate Wewoka’s artists, and do not forget while you are here to pick up a membership form and support great shows like this one and the upcoming “Speak; Speak while you can” that will open in September. The Museum is always grateful for your continued support!

The Wewoka High School Alumni Art Show is held at the Seminole Nation Museum each June in conjunction with the annual WHS Reunion. This year, the show features a variety of artistic mediums ranging from stunning oil paintings, wood-turned bowls, realistic graphite portraits, sculpture, glazed ceramics, and more! “The Museum has gone all out for this year’s exhibition,” says Collections Manager, Caitlin Maddox. “Since we were unable to have the Alumni Art Show last year, we wanted to make up for it in 2021 by increasing the exhibit space and giving it the celebratory treatment that it deserves.” As a special treat for visiting Wewoka High School graduates, the Museum put together a miniature exhibition in the lobby featuring Alumni art from the permanent collection.

The Seminole Nation Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has been serving the community of Wewoka since 1974. It relates the vibrant culture and rich history of the Seminoles and their celebrated capital of Wewoka. The museum is open 10-5, Monday-Saturday. Admission is free.
