American Legion Post Honors Three Local First Responders
Every year, Seminole’s American Legion Post gives out awards for “Medic of the Year,” “Firefighter of the Year” and “Officer of the Year.”
In special ceremonies held Tuesday evening at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce offices, the Legion presented the Medic of the Year to Sergeant Coty Davis. The Firefighter of the Year award was given to Corporal Collin Taylor, and Corporal Logan Gray was named Officer of the Year.
Seminole Fire Chief Fielding Lucas thanked the American Legion for honoring Davis and Taylor and acknowledged the two men for their service to the department.
“They both worked hard over the last year to complete their paramedic requirements. They sacrificed days off and time with family, not only to make the department better but to make the community safer. Their dedication to Seminole Fire Department is greatly appreciated,” Lucas said.
Police Chief Jon Withers echoed Lucas’ sentiments about the American Legion and expressed his thanks to Corporal Gray.
“We have such a great team on the PD. It is always hard to choose just one officer for this type of award,” Withers said. “Logan was every lieutenant’s choice this year due to his selfless volunteering of covering shifts. When someone is injured, sick, or has a family emergency, Logan would cover for them, even if it meant switching between day shift and night shift. Every time he covered shifts, he worked without a complaint. Congratulations Logan! You deserve this!”
In addition to honoring veterans, the local American Post regularly honors public servants and participates in many civic projects in Seminole.
Carl Odom serves as Post Commander of American Legion Post 204, which is headquartered in the former National Guard Armory on Strother Avenue. The post is a group for veterans from all wars.
