American Legion Post 204 is flying a burial flag the month of March in honor of a fallen Vietnam War Veteran and longtime Seminole businessman.

This month’s flag honors Danny Gene Allison (19392006).

Allison was a seasoned military veteran who served in the United States Army on active duty for nearly 13 years. He was also the owner and operator of Dan Allison Trucks, Inc. in Seminole and a devout Baptist.

He served two terms of duty in Vietnam, earning three Bronze Stars for Vietnam Service, a Bronze good conduct medal clasp, and a sharpshooter medal for his rifle and pistol marksmanship.

Danny married the love of his life, Else Shieler, on Sept. 05, 1961, in Karlsruhe, Germany and they had four sons: Mike, a retired National Guardsman; James, who served in Desert Storm and at Fort Hood, Texas; Bill, who served in Korea, Germany and at Fort Hood, Texas; and Danny Jr., who is a Pentecostal Holiness preacher.

The local American Legion post honors a different deceased veteran each month, part of a national effort to bring awareness to local fallen service members. All veterans that have passed away are eligible to be honored by the American Legion. To nominate a veteran, contact Post Commander Carl Odom at (405) 380-4615.
