Vernon H. Harmon of Ada has been employed as principal of Roosevelt- Central schools and R. B. Lynam of Harrah will be the new SHS basketball coach next season, Superintendent Donald E. Smith announced this morning.

Employment of the two new school officials was confirmed late Wednesday in a special meeting of the Seminole Board of Education.

Harmon, 27, has been employed at Ada schools since 1967 in both teaching and administrative duties. In the administrative branch at Ada he was evaluator of Title III project, director of environmental education, and service consultant.

The new principal received his BS degree from East Central State in Ada and his MS degree from Oklahoma State University. In addition, he has completed work in educational administration at OU and environmental education at the University of Nevada and Austin, Tex.

Harmon is married and the couple have three children.

Coach Lynam has played professional basketball in the ABA, performing with the Denver Rockets from 1967-68. In addition to his professional playing career, he coached basketball at Bethel High and Eisenhower Junior High in Oklahoma City prior to taking the head coach post at Harrah High.

Lynam played high school basketball at Shawnee and as a senior was chosen Most Valuable Player in 1962 and was named to the All State basketball team. He was a four-year starter at OBU from 1963-66 and in his senior year, OBU won the NAIA National Championship. In the national tourney, Lynam was chosen for the first team of the All-Tournament Squad and received the Charles S. Stevenson “Hustle Award.”

In 1966, the new SHS coach was chosen to make a tour of the Far East, representing the United States in basketball and the following year represented the US in a European tour.

Both the new coach and new principal will be moving to Seminole during the summer months and will assume duties this Fall term. “We feel that both of these men are outstanding in their field and will be assets to our community,” Superintendent Smith said.

Harmon takes the position formerly held by Keith Shaw, who will serve as administrative assistant to Superintendent Smith next year. Lyman will replace coach Boyd Linduff, who will serve as SHS principal next year. -oOo School Daze – Students who wish to enter the “Operation Pride” or “Little Man Symbol Contest” should see their homeroom teacher for a entry blank. ~ Results of the Holdenville game was Seminole three and Holdenville four. ~ Students with a 2.5 average should pick up in the office the Governor’s Honor Certificate. ~ Class ring found with initials T.A.A.
