Smith being pleased with the enthusiasm and spirit displayed by the high school student body and Chieftain fans at the football game…

Everything is in readiness for the opening of the 1971 edition of the Seminole County Fair on Monday at the fairgrounds in Wewoka, Warren Jones, general manager of the annual event, said Saturday. The clean up and fix up programs for the buildings and grounds were wound up this past week, and “we’re ready,” said Jones.

There will be many fine exhibits on display for fair visitors this year, showing what has been accomplished in Seminole county, Jones added.

Members of the Seminole school bands have launched a magazine subscription sales campaign to raise funds for new band uniforms, new equipment, contest fees, elementary bandroom, and end of year trip. All types of magazines are available.

Band Director Tom Flora, who is supervising the subscription drive for new and renewal subscriptions said Friday that the band’s goal is $1,000 in the fund. “We hope to sell at least $2,500 worth of magazine subscriptions and this will give us the $1,000 on the basis of the commissions we will make.

All members of Seminole’s powerful offensive backfield punched over touchdowns Friday night as the 1971 edition of the Seminole high school football Chieftains opened their new season with a smashing 26-6 victory over the Cushing Tigers before some 2,000 fans at Chieftain Stadium.
