Seminole merchants were advised today by both banks to be on the alert for possible bogus $20 bills which may find their way to Seminole. The warning to the banks here came from the Hughes county sheriff’s office after some bogus bills of that denomination were found to have been circulated there.

Merchants were advised to examine any $20 bills they may receive from strangers since the bogus ones are said to show a number of flaws.

Mrs. Ethel Blank Thompson was sentenced to 18 years in the state penitentiary by Judge Bob Howell this morning in Seminole County District Court in Wewoka on the basis of her conviction by a district court jury of a charge of first degree manslaughter.

At her trial in December, 1970, she was charged with murder but the jury returned a guilty verdict on the lesser charge. The charge resulted from the shooting death of her husband, Morales (Pete) Thompson at their home in the Letha area on the night of October 11, 1970, following an argument between the two.

Mrs. Thompson’s attorney filed notice of appeal to the State Court of Criminal Appeals, and she was allowed to remain free on her present bond.

The 1971 football season for the Seminole Tiny Chief teams will kickoff this Saturday night at Chieftain Stadium.

In the Tiny Chief program there are four teams – fourth grade boys, fifth grade boys, sixth grade boys and seventh grade boys.
