Day time enrollment at Seminole Junior College neared 500 today and night time enrollees totaled 168… September 10 is the deadline for enrolling in either day or night classes, and night classes start Thursday night… Mrs. Ray Davis recalling some interesting events in her newspapering days in Maud and Pauls Valley… Marie Koger relating some experiences she had on a recent vacation… Leroy Goad getting set for another round of football officiating this fall… City Policemen Cecil Jones and Bill Sparks giving a bus load of school kids a lift when the bus on which they were riding broke down at the edge of town earlier this week… Four-year-old Ronnie Richardson performing an errand and promptly informing an inquirer of his name and age… First Christian church members reminded of the all-church picnic to begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in City park…
Members of the Seminole Roundup Club were reminded this morning by Club president Johnnie Roberts that the group would take part in the Holdenville rodeo parade Thursday afternoon.
All those going to Holdenville were asked to have their horses at the club’s arena by 3 p.m. Thursday for transportation by truck to the Hughes county city.
Two contestants for the title of Seminole Indian Princess are being announced. They are Miss Mary Sue Johnson of Oklahoma City and Miss Rita Gale Factor of Bowlegs.
Seventeen years of age, Miss Johnson is the daughter of the late Alice Jones Johnson and Dan L. Johnson. She has two sisters and one brother.
A member of the Girls’ choir, Mary Sue was chosen student conductor during her sophomore year. She has lettered in sports, plays the piano and her hobbies are traveling, horseback riding, swimming, water skiing and collecting records. Her future plans include majoring in subjects to further a medical career.
Rita Gale’s candidacy represents the Tusekey – Harjo band. She is one of the four candidates competing for the title of Seminole Indian Princesses. Selection will be made on Saturday and will be a part of the Seminole Nation Indian Day celebration to be held in Seminole.
Miss Factor will compete in a talent contest, will present a theme she has written and she will be featured in the parade on that day.
The daughter of Edward and Carol Factor, Rita Gale is a senior in high school. She has been active in sports, band and has served her school as cheer leader.
Seminole’s Chieftains had an easy time of defeating Chandler 4-0, in a scrimmage Saturday night at Chieftain Stadium. However, this coming Saturday the Chiefs will get a real test of strength when they tangle with the large Marlow Outlaws at 7 p.m.
