Hundreds of people were up and down Seminole’s Main Street today taking advantage of the Seminole merchants “Sidewalk Sale” as today was the 30 th annual Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative membership meeting day in Seminole.

Members from the eight counties served by Canadian Valley joined Seminole area residents in visiting, shopping and just plain watching the CVEC-Day crowds.

The bargains featured in the “Sidewalk Sale” were “torrid” as was the temperature as the mercury climbed into the 90’s.

The CVEC members flocked to Seminole today to attend their annual membership meeting which was held at 1 p.m. in the Seminole Municipal Auditorium. Activities got underway this morning at 8 o’clock as registration of all members was held in the Seminole American Legion building.

During their membership meeting the customer-members of Canadian Valley heard the Kings Sons’ Quartet of Eufaula, Oklahoma, present several sessions of songs.

Seminole Mayor Waldo Lilly then addressed the crowd and welcomed all members to Seminole. Special speaker for today’s meeting was Newt Hielscher, America’s humorist with a message, from Shreveport, Louisiana.

He spoke to the crowd on a message entitled “The Contagious Cure.”

Sheila Marzuola, Shawnee, one of the cooperatives youth tour winners, who won a trip to Washington D.C. this year told those in attendance about her trip.

Ending the afternoon session today, was the awarding of attendance prizes to the customer-members whose names came out of the CVEC hopper. And there was a wide variety of electric appliances of all sorts along with many gifts presented by participating Seminole merchants.

Entertainment was furnished by the Seminole Hill Billy band.

After attending that celebration, Mrs. Huckleberry, Miss Brewer and the Hales journeyed on to Edmond to take Miss Hale and Miss Brewer. The two will be there this week to attend a safety program at Central State university. The girls are 4-H club representatives from the Seminole Farm bureau.
