Wayne Phillips of 1608 North Ideal Street being in charge of tearing down the old service station at North Second and Strothers Streets, and not city crews as mentioned in a Wednesday story…The truck at the scene was mistaken for a city vehicle…Mrs. Wilmer Birdwell from Robeline, LA, bringing in Betty Crocker coupons for use in purchasing a kidney machine for this area of the state…A native Seminole county resident and subscriber of the Producer, Mrs. John E. Watson of Long Beach, California, telephoning condolences to relatives on the recent death of her grandmother, Eliza Snow Page…She expressed regrets she was unable to attend services… Little Timmy Webster accompanying his grandmother on an errand…
Powerful winds—clocked at 60 miles per hour by Airport Manager John Howell—swept across Seminole Wednesday night breaking huge limbs from trees and causing some damage to businesses and houses as a thunderstorm dumped 1.31 inches of rain on the city.
Organized labor hopes to increase unemployment benefits in conference revision of a bill extending the program to comply with federal law.
The bill, passed Wednesday by the senate and returned to the house, extends coverage to an additional 100,000 workers and 29,000 employers. It is one of the major labor bills of the session.
Church of Christ Minister and Mrs. Wilson Wallace spent Wednesday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dixon, 405 North Park. Former minister at Seminole Church of Christ, Mr. Wallace and his wife were en route from Corsicana, Texas, where he has been minister, to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to assume ministerial duties there.
Rob Pyron, who joined the Wewoka Daily Times as a sportswriter in 1966, took over Tuesday as editor of the newspaper.
Pyron is a 1971 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University with a degree in Political Science and was the 1967 winner of the United Press International Editors of Oklahoma scholarship.
This afternoon at 5 o’clock the Seminole Roundup Club will hold their rodeo parade through downtown Seminole as a kickoff for their 34th annual IRA Championship Rodeo. The rodeo starts tonight with an 8 o’clock performance at the Seminole Rodeo Arena.
