City firemen made two runs to a point 2 ½ miles east of city around noon Thursday to douse a fire on the Rock Island right-of-way.

Firemen said dead grass in the area was set afire by signal flares thrown from passing freight. After the first run. Firemen made a second when an adjacent area caught fire from smoldering embers of the first, firemen said.

The Seminole County Singers will assembly Sunday for a two hour song fest, Jess Wright, president of the County Singers announced today. The new Trinity Baptist Church in Maud will be host for the singing.

Congregation singing will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Several out-of-town singing groups are expected, Wright said. “We would like to have a large crowd,” he added. “The general public is invited to attend.”

Tonight at 8 o’clock in the Konawa high school auditorium, 33 graduating seniors will receive their diplomas after hearing Dr. B.J. Tillman, Dean of Students at East Central State College, Ada, give the commencement address.

Valedictorian of the class is Miss Regina Burns and salutatorian is Jackie Goodrish. They will present the traditional honor graduates’ addresses.

Vocal music will be by the senior vocal group, and awards will be presented by Supt. A.W. Barrett.
