City firemen made a run Wednesday afternoon to the Bill Kepler residence on a county road a quarter – mile east of the Maud Y to douse a fire caused by a short in the motor of a home freezer. Firemen said nearby window curtains were damaged and there was some smoke damage in the room where the freezer was located.

For the first time in the school’s history, the Commencement Exercises for the 1971 Senior Class at Seminole High School will be conducted by members of the class. The exercises are set for 8 p.m. in Chieftain Stadium, weather permitting. In case of rain, the program will be moved indoors to the high school fieldhouse, Supt. Donald E. Smith announced earlier this week.

With today’s commencement exercises, Seminole, Varnum and Bowlegs students are near the end of the 1970-71 school year…Most schools will close out the term on Friday, some having Awards Assemblies in the morning while others will merely have students check in books and other items to end the year…Supt. Donald E. Smith of Seminole says the weather outlook is favorable to tonight’s outdoor commencement exercise in Chieftain stadium but he can quickly move to the SHS fieldhouse, if need be, he added…Seminole Junior College’s Dean Jim Colclazier reminded all high school graduates they can still enroll for summer school and get an early start on their college careers…

Associate District Judge Frank Howell Seay of Seminole will be the special speaker for tonight’s Commencement Exercises at Varnum High School auditorium at 8 o’clock for the 1971 graduating classes. At the conclusion of the program 11 seniors and 21 eighth grade students will receive diplomas presented by Supt. Eugene Warrenburg.

The Seminole Tennis Association will not hold their annual Seminole Open Tennis Tournament this summer it was learned Wednesday. Instead Shawnee has been given the tournament dates and the Shawnee Association will stage the tournament at the Oklahoma Baptist University tennis courts.

A former Producer carrier boy, William Roy Allen graduated from Seminole high school in 1965. He is the recipient of the Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Oklahoma university.
