The 1971 senior class at New Lima high school presented their final school assembly this past week in the school auditorium. The program consisted of the regular Class Day features and the Annual Awards Assembly.

Sandy Streater, class president, presided as mistress-of-ceremonies for the event.

Supt. Donald E. Smith of the Seminole schools today announced that Tom Flora, who recently resigned as director of the Bowlegs school bands after five years in the post, has been named director of Seminole high school and grade school bands by the board of Education. Flora will fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Kirk Allen.

Flora, a native of Campbell, Mo., where he graduated from high school, holds a bachelor of music degree from Oklahoma Baptist University, and will complete work this summer on his master’s degree in music education at the Univeristy of Oklahoma.

Mayor Waldo Lilly, all members of the city council, City Attorney W.B. Edwards and City Manager Don Brown Tuesday evening conducted a second public meeting of citizens on the problem of animals, and especially dogs, within the city.

Manuel Rivas, coach of the Seminole Lion’s Club 11-12 year old boys summer league baseball team is in need of three more players to make a full team…Boys in this age group who are interested in playing summer ball should call Rivas at 382-1494…Coaches of all summer league teams are reminded by the Producer Sports Department that they should pick up their baseball game report forms before the season gets underway…These forms are available at the Producer sports desk… Terri Ivey being among the latest individuals turning in the Betty Crocker coupons as a part of a collection being used to purchase a kidney machine for area use…

The honor graduates in this year’s senior class at Varnum high school are Jacquie Cauthron, valedictorian, and William Dunagan, salutatorian. The valedictorian is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Mason of Route 3, Seminole, and the salutatorian is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S.T. Dunagan of Route 3, Seminole.

In announcing the honor graduates, Principal Jerald Harris, said Jacquie has a 3.7 grade point average for her four years of high school. She has been a member of the State Honor Society for the past two years, and is the class reporter of her senior class. She served as president of her sophomore class.
