City firemen were called to Seminole and Highland streets at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to douse a fire in a car driven by Julia Martin. The fire was caused by a carburetor flooding and backfiring. There was no damage to the motor, firemen said.
Specialist Fourth Class Jim R. Douthit of the 179 th Aviation company (Assault Support Helicopter) APO 96383, received the Army Commendation medal for “meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against a hostile force.” Before entering the military, Mr. Douthit attended Bowlegs high school. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Douthit Sr. of Bowlegs.

Deputy State Supt. Of Public Instruction E.H. McDonald will be the speaker for the Maud high school commencement exercises Thursday at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium, Supt. Vernon A. Coleman announced today. The baccalaureate service was held Sunday night in the school auditorium.
The Seminole Golf Association will sponsor a oneday putting tournament Thursday, May 13, on the Seminole Municipal Golf links for all association members. Entrance fee is 50 cents plus three old balls. Winner of the tournament will be the player with the least number of putts after a regular nine holes of play.
A noon luncheon highlighted the Monday program of World War I Veterans and Auxiliary in M&M building on Randolph drive. After the delightful meal, the two groups separated to hold simultaneous business sessions. Mrs. W.G. McComb conducted the auxiliary session. Mrs. J.C. Walker acted as conductress and Mrs. D.V. Williams, chaplain, voiced prayer. Mrs. W.H. Hough, patriotic instructor, led the pledge to the Flag. Mrs. H.A. McCombie submitted a report on the previous meeting. Mrs. Fred Oliver reported on the outcome of the recent rummage sale. Mrs. Hough was named finance chairman for fundraising activities.
