Some members of an alleged bogus check ring which have been operating in the greater Seminole area for the past several weeks were arrested by city police Wednesday afternoon, shortly after cashing one of the checks. The three arrested were transferred to the county, and charges were filed today in Seminole County District Court at Wewoka against them.
Yesterday afternoon, the trio cashed a check at Mr. D’s United Supermarket, receiving groceries and cash for the instrument, police said. This was the second time for them to cash a check there within the past several weeks. As they came out of the store Wednesday police were waiting to take them into custody.
Investigating officers said that one of them would write the checks which were drawn on the First State Bank of Seminole, making them payable to the other two and then the latter two would cash them at some store or place of business.
Seminole Rotarians and guests Wednesday heard City Manager Don Bown explain major principals involved in a council-manager form of city government.
Primarily, Bown told the rotarians, a council-manager system of government, operated under a charter setting out duties and responsibilities, gives a city a professional staff of employees and better planning than any other type or form of municipal government.
