Fire of unknown origin partially destroyed a couch on the second floor of the Worth Hotel about 1:30 a.m. Monday, caused heavy smoke damage to the upper floor hallways and rooms, and also set fire to a clothes closet in one of the rooms, destroying the contents. Firemen said the couch was in a semi-lobby on the second floor of the hotel. Two fire units and crews answered the alarm, and the fire was under control within a short time, a fire department spokesman said.

Mayor Waldo Lilly and four councilman start new terms of office today, and the oath of office for the new two-year terms will be administered to the city officials at tonight’s council meeting by City Attorney W.B. Edwards. The incoming councilman are Earl Austin of Ward 1, who is starting his first term in the post after having served on the council several years ago; Leroy Poplin of Ward 2; Creston Lawyer of ward 3; and Melvin Moran of Ward 4. The latter three were re-elected to new terms at the recent city election.

Ho Ho the Clown, well known Oklahoma television personality, will make a personal appearance here Wednesday morning when the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce Goodwill Tour visits downtown Seminole as a part of its tour of Southwestern Oklahoma. The Goodwillers will arrive in three charted buses, and among them will be the famous Kiltie Band. A short program will be presented in the 200 block of Main street. All of the above visitors will have souvenirs to give out to area folks coming downtown Wednesday morning at 9:55. From here the tour goes to Wewoka for a brief stop.

Sidney O. Russell, lineman for Oklahoma Gas and Electric company and who works out of Seminole operating headquarters, Shawnee Division, was honored at a recent awards banquet in Shawnee when he received a jeweled lapel pin in recognition of his 20 years’ service to the company. Making the presentation was Mr. Donald S. Kennedy of Oklahoma City, chairman of the OG&E board of directors and chief executive officer.
