Pauls Valley will honor a former Seminole and Pauls Valley newspaper publisher as the 1971 “Man of the Years” with a dinner and special program Thursday evening in Pauls Valley. James T. Jackson, founder of The Seminole Producer is the honoree.

Jackson, a native of Kansas and former publisher of a Kansas weekly, worked on daily newspapers in Kansas before coming to Seminole in 1927 to begin publishing The Producer on March 1 of that year.

C.V. Parsons, residing 18 miles northwest of Seminole, reported to the sheriff’s office Tuesday the theft of many items of equipment from his farm and farming equipment.

Reported taken were two 12-volt batteries, two hydraulic couplings, a heavy duty chain hoist with two small winches, the power shaft off a brush-hog, two barrels of butane gas, a 14 foot heavy chain, 100 steel post, and tools off of two tractors and a combine.

The first indoor rifle match for Boy Scouts in the Canadian Valley district was conducted Saturday in the National Guard Armory. Teams and individuals were entered from troops at Shawnee, Dale and Seminole. From Seminole Troop 428 were David Gentry, Randall Livingston, Russ Martin, David Shipman and Terry McDonald.

Other troop members from Seminole assisting in the match were Ronnie Robbins, Ricky McDonald and Phillip Scott.

Scoutmaster Tim McNew invites all interested boys to join in scout activities. A prospective member should call Mr. McNew or his assistant, Bob Scott. Troop 428 meets every Monday from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Armory.

City police said Tuesday that a burglar alarm at the Willis Wholesale Company, 109 West Oak, possibly prevented a burglary of the firm.

An anonymous caller told police that the alarm was sounding at the Willis firm and when police arrived they found the front door glass was broken out, but no one was found inside. A check with the owner of the firm showed that nothing was taken.

A panel truck belonging to the firm and parked in front of the building had the back glass broken out, police said.

Congressman Carl Albert announced Tuesday that the Office of Education had certified $6,657 for immediate payment to the Wewoka school district from federal funds made available through provisions of Public Law 874. The congressman said the total tentative entitlement for the school district is $13,314.
