Scholarship Recipient is Larry Barker

Larry D. Barker, Seminole high school graduate and now a senior student at Oklahoma university, is one of 10 engineering Physics students who each received a $100 scholarship for the current semester.

The 10 awards were funded by Humble Companies Foundation on behalf of Esso Production Research company, the exploration and production research affiliate of Humble Oil and Refining company.

Mr. Barker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam E. Barker of Oklahoma City, former Seminole residents. He has a twin, Garry, also an OU student.

Fire Run

City firemen were called to douse a grass fire at 801 Lincoln Monday at the Aaron Moran home. Firemen said burning trash set fire to some dead grass and got out of control. Only damage was the burned grass.

SHS Debate Team Adds New Trophy

At the National Forensic League tournament in Oklahoma City this past weekend, the NFL traveling sweepstakes trophy was awarded to Seminole high school. The winner is selected on the basis of accumulated points earned by debate and speech students in tournament competition over a period of several years.

This year Seminole debaters took first place honors at tournaments held at Panhandle State College, University of Arkansas, Oklahoma State University, East Central State College and Southwestern State College. In addition, Seminole placed second at Pryor and won the third place trophy at Okmulgee, Tulsa, East Central State College and South western State College.
