Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Wells, 1316 Ideal, city, announce the birth of their first child, a baby boy, at 6:14 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, in Seminole Municipal hospital. The youngster weighed five pounds, 13 ½ ounces, and has been named Jason Shane.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Petit and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rich, all of Seminole. Great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Foster of Seminole, Mr. G.W. Petit of Archer City, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Simington of Anderson, Missouri.
Great-great grandparents are Mrs. G.C. Clymer of Seminole and Mrs. E.E. Marchant of Cave Springs. Arkansas.
Former Cityan Named to Regional Post
Mrs. Georgene Payne, reading specialist at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M college, Miami, has been named a regional consultant for the National Reading council. Mrs. Payne is the former Georgene Bishop, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Homer Bishop. She was reared in the Seminole Wewoka area.
Named to the initial membership of the group, Mrs. Payne will be asked to contribute information from the college developmental reading courses to the national council. Elliot Richardson, secretary of health, education and welfare, appointed members from the fields of education, business, government, the arts, sciences and communications.

Grass Fire
Seminole firemen battled a large grass fire and brush fire in the Letha area for about two hours Thursday afternoon before bringing it under control. The fire burned from the east side of Highway 99 to the west side of south Harvey Road, and covered about 400 acres, firemen said.
All volunteer firemen plus some area volunteers and the regular fire truck crew were in the action of curbing the fire. The cause of the fire was unknown.
Seminole General Council to Meet
The General Council of Seminole Nation will meet Saturday at 10 a.m. in the district courtroom in the courthouse at Wewoka, Chief Terry Walker announced today.
Four items have been listed on the agenda for the meeting. These include a report from SFE Inc., a tribal – financed manufacturing firm located in Wewoka; a discussion on the Mekusukey property which is the former site of the Old Mekusukey Mission; a review of the tribal budget; setting the salary for the tribal treasurer, and selection of a depository for tribal funds.
Other matters also may be brought up by the council members.
