Burglars Hit Business Again

For the second time within recent weeks, burglars knocked out the front door glass in the Sports Center, 123 North Second, sometime Sunday night, to gain entry, city police reported. The management of the place said that $7.50 in nickels was the only thing found missing.

Weather

At noon today in Seminole the temperature was 33 degrees in a heavy fall of “wet” snowflakes after a low Monday night of 35, the local US Weather Bureau Station reported. High temperature Monday was 52 degrees. The snow was melting as fast as it hit the ground, creating possible diving hazard tonight, the weather Bureau warned.

Car Glass Broken

Robby Trammell, of 1805 Oakridge Drive reported to police that vandals threw a large rock through the back window of his car while it was parked in the 200 block of West Russell Sunday night.

Chamber’s Membership Drive Opens

The 1971 membership drive of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce was kicked off this morning with a breakfast at the Harvest House, and was attended by Hulett Edgmon, membership drive chairman, and captains and members of the five six – man teams to be used in the drive. Edgmon said there are 132 potential or prospective members of the Chamber in Seminole, and the names of these were assigned to the various teams for canvassing. These teams will call on these prospects this week.

Bryce Hill reporting that the only folks left in New Lima Thursday when the Falcons start their bid for a state cage crown will be the too young and too old to travel… Acting Police Chief Kenneth Higdon saying that he hopes to have the cooperation of the public in obeying the city’s traffic laws in their daily driving on all streets… Louise Davis helping the news department in the correct spelling of a not-often used word…

Varnum Will Crown Activity Queen Tonight

Miss Jeanette Nicholson, senior class representative and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Nicholson of Route 2, Seminole, will be crowned Activity Queen of Varnum high school for 1970-71 in a special coronation ceremony set for the Varnum gym at 7:30 p.m. today. Runner-up in the queen’s contest which ended Monday was Miss Ella Ruth Courtney, representing the junior class. She will be the maid of honor in the queen’s court tonight. The senior and junior classes name candidates for the honor, and the winner is decided by the amount of money each class raises for the school’s activity fund. Entertainment will follow the coronation, Supt. Eugene Warrenburg said.
