Only One Filing For City Office Made Last Week
Only one candidate for a Seminole Council post had filed with County Election Board Secretary Ruby Hurley at the close of business Friday afternoon. The candidate was Melvin Moran of Ward 4 seeking re-election.
The filing period for the upcoming city election on March 16 opened last Monday and will close March 2. Posts to be filled at the March 16 election are Mayor and one council post from each ward. In addition to Councilman Moran, other incumbents whose terms expire this year are Councilman E.L. Mick of Ward 1, Leroy Poplin of Ward 2 and Creston Lawyer of Ward 3. Mayor Waldo Lilly’s term of office also expires this year.
No commitment has been made by the other three councilmen or Mayor Lilly if they will seek re-election.
All-State Honors Are Being Sought For SHS Cager
Bill Hays, Seminole high school’s top basketball scorer for the past two basketball seasons was named by Seminole high school Coaches Boyd Linduff and J.B. Flatt Saturday as Seminole’s official candidate for All-State this year. “Hays is a very superior basketball player and in my estimation one of the top guards in the state,” head coach Boyd Linduff said in making the announcement.
The senior basketball talent came to Seminole last year as a junior and he played as the only junior member of the starting five last year and still was top scorer with a 21.3 average. He led the Seminole team of last season to an impressive 17-6 record.
Mrs. Watson is Hostess Mrs. Lee Watson opened her home at 2001 Grisso drive for the February program of Lilac Flower club Thursday afternoon. To begin the program, Mrs. O.L. Newcomb, president, read “My Wish,” by W.R. Hunt.
Mrs. Rockford Black submitted the secretarial report. In answer to roll call, members described their greatest problem with flower growing.
Joint Program Held By
Carrie circle of Missionary Society of First Church of God and the Willing Workers of the church joined Thursday evening in the home of Mrs. Bill Hooten. Mrs. J.C. Robbins, president, opened the meeting by expressing appreciation to Mrs. Hooten for her hospitality in inviting the groups to her home.
Mrs. Henry Gold voiced the opening prayer. Mrs. Herb Gunter read a stewardship thought. Mrs. Bob Griffith read minutes of the previous meeting and gave a report on finances. Mrs. Mabel voiced
PG Boys Get To Finals In Edmond Meet
Lloyd Martin was the man of the day for Pleasant Grove as his consistent scoring helped to boost the Comets to their victory. And it was a total team effort by the Comet starting five that kept the Pioneer offensive attack under control, during the fourth quarter.
Dave Jones was tops for Pioneer with 21 points while Allen Webber had 11. Terry Hobeck scored 11 also for Pioneer and Les Chicker made 10 as did Brad Gunzall. Finishing scoring for Pioneer was Stovells with 4. P. Grove...69 and Pioneer...67.
