Three fire runs this morning kept Seminole firemen busy, but little damage resulted from any of the calls, a fire department spokesman said at noon.
The first was at 7:45 a.m. to the Chieftain Drive-In at 701 State where and overloaded socket was beginning to smoke. Firemen just pulled the plug, and solved the problem. Only damage was to the socket and wiring.
At 9 a.m. a run was made to the Dorris Motel, 301 West Broadway, to douse a fire in a divan in the office. Firemen said the fire was caused by a lighted cigarette being dropped on the furniture. A large hole was burned in the cushion before the fire was controlled.
At 10:30 a unit was called to Crossett Wholesale Co. at 8 North Milt Phillips Avenue where a broken gas line was causing a fire hazard. Firemen turned off the gas meter, and cleared away the escaped gas.
Burglars broke into the Roosevelt grade school at 206 West College sometime before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, and broke open the coin boxes on three candy and two drink vending machines as well as a pencil vending device, took the money in these, police reported this morning.
The burglary was discovered at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
No report on the amount of money was available from the principal’s office pending the receipt of a report from the owner of the machines.
Entry was gained by breaking the glass out of a door on the east side of the building. Apparently the burglars left by the same route, police said.
A vital Five-Star Conference roundball contest will be played in the Holdenville high school gym Friday night when the Seminole Chieftains go against the Wolverines at 8 o’clock. However, the contest will not nail down a conference championship for the Chiefs if they win as stated earlier.
Instead, if the Chiefs can defeat Holdenville, as they have done once this season, 47-45 in five overtimes, then the Chieftains will have a pretty open run for the championship with Drumright, Wewoka and Bristow left to play. But, if the Chieftains lose to Holdenville then the Wolves will tie up the conference and it would be hard to say how the conference would end up.
Seminole is currently holding the No. 1 spot in the circuit standings with a conference record of 5-wins and 1-loss. Holdenville after being beaten by Henryetta Tuesday night 57-42, stands tied with the Hens for second place with both teams having a conference record of 4-2. The Wolves after the game with Seminole will still have to play Henryetta. The Hens still have games against Holdenville, Bristow, Drumright and Wewoka.
