Seminole Chamber of Commerce directors Friday voted to seek a change in the organization’s bylaws to permit the superintendent of schools, the president of the Community Junior College, the city manager and the county commissioner from District 3 (Seminole district) to be named official, voting members of the chamber board.

The board’s action brought two “no” votes. Director Hulett Edgmon said adding four appointive members to the two already provided for in the bylaws would make appointive members and Evan Cherry objected to a provision that if the principal named wanted to do so he could name a representative. Cherry said he believed that if the principal could not serve he should be eliminated.

Farmer’s Tax Guides are now available free at the Seminole County OSU Extension Center in the courthouse at Wewoka, Warren Jones, county extension director, announced Friday.

The guide contains many examples and illustrations. A special page shows some major changes in the tax laws for 1970. Other items of interest include filing requirements, income to be reported, deductible expenses, inventories, depreciation, depletion and investment credit.

Also included is information on capital gains and losses, determining basis for gain or loss, casualty losses, involuntary conversions and soil and water conservation expenses.

One chapter is on social security, deductions and exemptions.

Even if an accountant files your return, the Farmer’s Tax Guide will be helpful to you, said Jones. For good management, a general knowledge of tax rules is necessary, and it may save your tax dollars, Jones added.

The Seminole basketball Chieftains displaying a fastpaced offense in Seminole’s gy Friday night won their 10tn victory for the season by blasting the Saint Mary’s Rockets off their launching pad 76-59, before a capacity hometown crowd of some 1,700 fans.

With the non-conference victory Seminole holds a 10-4 season record and they are still leading the Five-Star Conference with a 4-1 record. The Chiefs will take on conference power Drumright in Seminole’s field house Tuesday night for their next game. The St. Mary Rockets hold a season record of 6-6 after absorbing the loss.
