Two Arrested in 1997 Sasakwa Murder Case

Murder victim’s niece, great niece arrested and booked on charges of first-degree murder.

Two arrests have been made in a Seminole County murder case that went cold nearly 30 years ago.

According to a news release from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), 81-yearold Carolyn Foreman and Dakota Davis, 45, were arrested Tuesday and charged with first degree murder in relation to the 1997 death of Gerthie Carolina, who was 81 at the time. Foreman is the victim’s niece, and Davis is her great niece.

On August 11, 1997, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered deceased inside the home.

The OSBI was requested to assist with the investigation. OSBI special agents collected information from the scene and Carolina was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further evaluation. The autopsy revealed that Carolina’s cause of death was multiple stab and incised wounds, as well as a blunt force injury.

As the investigation progressed, OSBI special agents and local law enforcement continued working to track down the individuals responsible for Carolina’s death. In November of 2023, the OSBI obtained additional evidence that was further evaluated and tested.

Based on the information gathered, an arrest warrant was issued March 3 by the Seminole County District Court for Foreman and Davis. On March 4, OSBI special agents located Davis in Sacramento, California and Foreman in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Both suspects were arrested on charges of First-Degree Murder.

The OSBI thanked the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Seminole County District Attorney’s Office, and Sacramento Police Department for their assistance with this investigation.
