Trash Service Rate Increase Approved by City Council

Posted in:

Commercial and residential customers in the city limits of Seminole can expect their trash collection rates to rise beginning this summer.

In its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 8, the Seminole City Council approved a 2.9% increase from Central Disposal effective July 1. Central’s contract with the city, which was signed in Feb. 2022, contains a clause allowing the company to request a Consumer Price Index (CPI) hike each year. The CPI, published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, is a measure of the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services. According to the latest news release from the bureau, the CPI for all urban consumers decreased 0.1 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in March, after rising 0.2 percent in February.

Per a rate schedule provided by Central Disposal, residential customers are currently paying $17.90 per month for curbside collection (one polycart). When the rate hike kicks in, customers will pay $18.24 per month. Commercial rates for a 300-gallon dumpster in downtown alleys will increase from $103/month to $105.84.

Central Disposal, LLC is a locally owned and operated solid waste management company headquartered in Shawnee. They offer residential, commercial, construction roll-off services, and recycling to central Oklahoma.
