Nonprofit Honored With ‘Up And Coming’ Award
A relatively new Seminole non-profit was recognized as a rising star in the community at the recent Chamber of Commerce Banquet.
Impact Seminole received the “Up and Coming” community award at the chamber’s annual banquet held Jan. 28 at the Enoch Kelly Haney Center.
Founded in 2023, Impact Seminole was created in response to community members acknowledging the growing financial and societal challenges in the area. Through grassroots volunteer efforts, the organization started meeting those needs by epitomizing its mission “to promote excellence and integrity within our educational system and community.”
With community support, Impact Seminole raised $6,000 to create an Esports program at Northwood Elementary. Esports is currently exploding in popularity across the nation, so this offers unique opportunities for local students.
In August, the organization hosted 650 students at its Back to School Bash. Each student received a backpack and lunch as well as the opportunity to network with local businesses, churches and community resource organizations. At the event, community volunteers performed over 80 student haircuts and 87 sports physicals. Money was raised to support the Seminole Middle School locker room renovation as well as the Seminole Public School food pantry when funds ran short.
In November, Impact Seminole hosted its first annual Community Thanksgiving and served over 300 meals throughout Seminole. In addition to larger community efforts, the group has also taken the initiative to respond to the immediate needs of individual families with specific concerns.
In December, Impact helped a family secure furniture, bedding, and additional heat to make sure children in the community are not sleeping on the cold floor. Prior to Christmas, local school counselors were able to identify students and their families experiencing significant financial hardship. In response, the organization sponsored twelve students with toys and clothes for Christmas. Santa and his elves delivered these gifts to their homes on Dec. 23.
Impact Seminole’s membership is open to all, and the organization plans to continue supporting the community and making a positive impact for years to come.
