The Multi-County Grand Jury last week approved a 12-count indictment against Krysty Jean Scholes, 49, and Earl Wayne Salisbury, 47, for a fraud scheme totaling more than $21,000 and spanning multiple counties.

According to the indictment, Scholes and Salisbury used fraudulent checks to obtain merchandise from numerous major retailers, including Walmart, Academy Sports + Outdoors, The Home Depot and O’Reilly Auto Parts, as well as local businesses that included lumber yards, feed stores and mattress retailers. Scholes allegedly used stolen driver’s licenses belonging to multiple victims to impersonate these individuals while passing fraudulent checks.

Attorney General Gentner Drummond noted that the indictments resulted from an investigation by the Organized Retail Crime Task Force.

“This extensive fraud scheme victimized numerous businesses and individuals across multiple counties,” Drummond said in a news release. “We will use every tool at our disposal to hold thieves accountable and protect Oklahoma consumers and businesses.”

The defendants are charged with conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses, obtaining property by false pretenses, conspiracy to falsely impersonate another, false personation of another, fraudulently obtaining personal identity information and engaging in a pattern of criminal offenses.

The criminal activity spanned Oklahoma, Canadian, Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Garvin, Kingfisher, Grady and McClain counties.

Drummond’s office reminds that Every person arrested or indicted is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
