Candidate Filing For Wewoka Mayor, Council Begins Dec. 1

Posted in:

The Seminole County Election Board has announced the official filing period for candidates seeking election as Mayor or City Councilmember for Ward 1 in the City of Wewoka.

Candidates may file Monday, December 1 through Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the Seminole County Election Board Office, temporarily located inside Wewoka City Hall, 123 S. Mekusukey Avenue, Wewoka, Oklahoma, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. This filing period is established by the Oklahoma Election Calendar for the 2026 municipal election cycle.

If more than two candidates file for either position, a Primary Election will take place Tuesday, February 10, 2026, with the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes advancing to the general election. The Wewoka Municipal General Election will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Under the City of Wewoka Charter, any qualified elector—a person legally registered to vote within the city limits—is eligible to file as a candidate for mayor or for a council seat in their respective ward.

Candidates for Ward 1 must reside within the boundaries of that ward at the time of filing and throughout their term of office. The Mayor is elected at-large, meaning all registered voters within the City of Wewoka may vote in that race.

All municipal elections in Wewoka are nonpartisan, as provided by Article VI, Section 6-1 of the City of Wewoka Charter. No political party designation or emblem will appear on the ballot.

Both the Mayor and Ward 1 Councilmember will serve three-year terms beginning on the third Monday in April 2026, as prescribed by the City of Wewoka Charter.

Declarations of candidacy must be submitted in person to the Seminole County Election Board during the designated filing period. All filings are subject to verification by the County Election Board in accordance with Oklahoma election laws and the City of Wewoka Charter.

For questions regarding eligibility, ward boundaries, or filing procedures, contact the Seminole County Election Board at (405) 257-2786 or visit Wewoka City Hall, 123 S. Mekusukey Avenue, during regular business hours.
