Weekend Marred by Three Traffic Fatalities
It was a deadly weekend on Seminole County highways as three people perished in two separate traffic accidents.
Thirty-eight-year-old Misty Jefferson of Seminole was killed early Friday night in a crash near Konawa and early Saturday morning, Gabriel Sears, 24, Seminole, and Jorge Campos of Warr Acres were both killed in a head-on collision near Cromwell.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), Jefferson was a passenger on a moped driven by Kody Stewart, 35, also of Seminole. Stewart allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at NS 3560 and EW 1510 and was hit by a Ford F-150 driven by Lili Harper, 53, Konawa. Stewart was transported via life flight by Air Evac to the OU Medical Center in critical condition and Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene. Helmets were not in use at the time of the accident.
Neither Harper nor her passenger was injured in the crash, which occurred seven miles east of Konawa at about 7:46 p.m. The accident was investigated by Trooper Billy Messner #333, of the Seminole/ Okfuskee/West Hughes County detachment of Troop D.
The double fatality occurred at about 1:03 a.m. Saturday on Highway 56 near EW 1210, approximately six miles from Cromwell. The OHP reported that Sears and Campos collided head-on, leaving both men pinned in their vehicles. They were extricated by the Cromwell and Wewoka Fire Departments. The crash was investigated by Trooper Easton Francis #205, of the Seminole/Okfuskee/ West Hughes County detachment of Troop D.
