SSC Regents Advance Renovations, New Academic Program

Posted in:

The Seminole State College Board of Regents convened on May 15 to consider several items impacting campus facilities, academic offerings and local educational funding efforts.

Following a financial update from Vice President for Fiscal Affairs Melanie Rinehart, SSC President Lana Reynolds provided a report highlighting campus activities, personnel updates and the latest developments in the legislative session.

The first item of business was the approval of a bid from Dave Haynie Inc. for a series of bathroom remodeling projects across campus. Vice President Rinehart outlined the bid process and explained that the College plans to move forward with a portion of the work this fiscal year, prioritizing high-need areas while maintaining flexibility for future improvements.

The Board next voted to approve a resolution supporting a proposed Seminole County education sales tax initiative. If passed, the tax would benefit ten area public schools, the District Attorney’s education office and SSC. The College would join a coalition seeking to place the proposal before Seminole County voters.

Additionally, the Regents approved a motion to begin the process of establishing a Paralegal program at SSC. Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Bill Knowles submitted a proposal citing rising workforce demand and the opportunity to expand enrollment through a program that meets regional employment needs.

Under the Consent Agenda, the Board approved the 20252026 SSC Events and Employee Holiday Schedule as well as degree program modifications for the Associate in Science in Medical Laboratory Technology and the Associate in Arts in Social Sciences.

The meeting adjourned after the conclusion of regular business. Board members present were Chair Curtis Morgan, Marci Donaho, Robyn Ready and Bryan Cain. The next meeting of the SSC Board of Regents is scheduled for June 9, 2025.
