Solar-Powered Decorations to Light up Milt Phillips Avenue
The Seminole City Council has approved a more than $10,000 expenditure for solar-powered holiday decorations for the North Milt Phillips corridor.
In its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 14, the council voted to approve the purchase of six pole-mounted decorations, including three snowmen measuring five feet tall and three toy soldiers that stand at seven feet. The total cost, including solar power panels with timers and remotes, comes to $10,068 including a $750 shipping fee. The vendor is Easy Treezy, LLC of Miami Lakes, Florida. The company was featured on ABC’s hit television show “The Shark Tank.”
In a memo contained in the meeting packet, Information Technology Director Sean Carlisle explained that multiple vendors were contacted, but Easy Treezy is the only company able to meet the parameters for solar powered decorations in the planned installation area.
According to Mayor Cory Crabtree, the decorations will be installed on preexisting poles in the median of North Milt Phillips from Strother to Highway 9/Wrangler Boulevard. Crabtree said the city had to go the solar route with the decorations because the poles are owned by Oklahoma Gas and Electric, and they will not allow anything that requires electrical power to be mounted on them.
“At this time, there will be one on each pole, but I’d like to have more,” Crabtree said in an Oct. 10 social media post. “You all remember when this was done in the past and it looked great. This will be massive compared to the old ones of years past. I think they’ll add a little flair and excitement to Seminole during the holidays.”
Crabtree explained that the city has a dedicated beautification fund for items such as Christmas decorations. That fund has been tapped for various mural projects around the city.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the council set the candidate filing period and election dates for the 2026 municipal election. The filing period will begin at 8 a.m. on Dec. 1 and will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 3. A nonpartisan primary election will be held Feb. 10, and if necessary, a runoff will be held April 7. The two-year terms of Larry Church (Ward 1), John Cramer (Ward 2), Jeff Nance (Ward 3) and Trace Conner (Ward Four) will expire next spring.
Other matters taken up by the council on Tuesday, including the reorganization of the city’s code enforcement department, will be covered in upcoming editions of the Producer.
