SHS Senior Flies High in Aviation Program
A Seminole High School student has been honored by the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA).
Bradey Sims, a senior at SHS, was named the ODAA Aerospace Student of the Month for November 2025. Sims is a dedicated aviation student and ranks in the top 10% of his graduating class. Since joining Seminole High School’s aviation program four years ago, Sims has earned its top academic honor each year.
Sims currently holds a student pilot certificate and is training with Controlled Airspace, LLC out of KSRE Airport. He passed the FAA Private Pilot Aeronautical Knowledge exam in February 2025. He has now logged 90 flight hours, including over 10 solo hours, and is preparing for his scheduled private pilot check ride.
At Seminole High School, Sims is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society, and is president of the SHS Technology Student Association. He is also a student member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and has flown with the Young Eagles Flight Program, further expanding his exposure to the aviation community at large. Outside the classroom, he enjoys racing dirt bikes with the Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association.
Sims is a mentor to his peers and also enjoys encouraging younger students to explore aviation careers. He has volunteered during Seminole Middle School’s Career Day and other community events, sharing his aviation experiences, his passion for flying, and helping to spark interest in Seminole High School’s aviation program.
Following graduation in 2026, Sims will attend college to pursue a degree in aviation. His next milestone will be to earn his instrument rating, and he is prepared to put in the hard work.
“Earning your wings doesn’t just happen—you show up, study hard, fly harder, and prove every day that you’re meant to be in the air,” Sims said.
“As a senior aviation student, Bradey is incredibly passionate and has been instrumental in encouraging others to explore and pursue the opportunities available in the aerospace community,” Aviation Instructor Zane Watters said. “By sharing his experiences through the Young Eagles program and his flight training, Bradey inspires younger students and makes our program stronger. He has a very bright future in front of him, and I look forward to witnessing all the things he accomplishes after high school.”
