Seminole Sales Tax Down For Month, up For Year

The March release from the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) shows the City of Seminole saw a decrease in tax revenue in their latest return compared to last month. However, the release showed this revenue was higher compared to March last year.

The City of Seminole’s Use Tax was also lower compared to last month’s but higher than last year’s return. The latest release explains the March distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from January business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from January 16-31 and estimated sales from February 1-15. The disbursement of $181,161,452 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $4,752,851 from the $176,408,601 distributed to them in March last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $33,061,015. In county returns, the counties shared in a $30,531,667 sales tax disbursement and $6,070,714 in a use tax disbursement.

The CITY OF SEMINOLE has a sales tax rate of .04 percent. The city received a $573,246.11 March Sales Tax disbursement. This was $22,219.66 less than the $595,465.77 returned last month. The return was $26,867.46 more than the $546,378.65 reported last year.

The City of Seminole also receives a Use Tax, which is from purchases that are made out of state, usually from Internet sales. Seminole’s February Use Tax return of $57,363.03 was $40,025.01 less than last month’s $97,388.04. It was $14,617.23 more than last year’s $42,745.80 Use Tax return.

This month’s report shows SEMINOLE COUNTY, which has a sales tax rate of 0.0125, received a $286,593.49 sales tax disbursement for March. This was $52,338.96 less than the $338,932.45 returned last month. It was $14,081.54 more than the $272,511.95 returned last year. The Seminole County Use Tax return of $40,825.53 was $24,246.55 less than last month’s disbursement of $65,072.08. It was $2,975.49 more than the $37,850.04 returned last year.

The March sales tax disbursement for the CITY OF WEWOKA of $119,272.44 was $10,378.61 more than last month’s return of $108,893.83. This disbursement was $32,976.02 more than last year’s return of $86,296.42. This is the first report to equally compare the rise in Wewoka’s sales tax from 0.04 percent sales tax to 0.0525 in January 2024 (this month’s returns are from Jan. 2025 collections).

The City of Wewoka’s Use Tax return was $13,192.62. This was $22,553.18 less than the February return of $35,745.80. It was $3,507.06 less than last year’s $16,699.68 return.

The CITY OF KONAWA received a $30,871.91 March Sales Tax disbursement. This was $330 less than the $31,201.91 returned last month, and $229.32 less than the $31,101.23 return in March last year. Konawa has a 0.04 percent sales tax.

The City of Konawa’s Use Tax return for March was $10,353.15. This was $5,403.61 less than last month’s $15,756.76 disbursement and $867.71 more than the $9,485.44 returned last year.

The CITY OF MAUD has a 0.04% sales tax and receives a tax disbursement for both Seminole and Pottawatomie Counties. The portion located in Seminole County showed a $11,571.23 return for March. This was $1,921.50 more than last month’s $9,649.73 return. It was $3431.57 more than last year’s $8,139.66 return.

(Maud’s Pottawatomie County sales tax disbursement was $5,861.07 this month and $10,339.41 last year). Maud’s Seminole County Use Tax return was $2,158.51. This was $148.49 more than the $2,010.02 February return. It was $568.61 less than last year’s $2,727.12 return.

(Maud received a Pottawatomie County use tax disbursement of $3,588.52 this month and $2,566.79 last year). The CITY OF CROMWELL received a $4,371.08 sales tax disbursement for March. This was $633.92 less than the $5,005.00 February return but $1,074.43 more than last year’s return of $3,296.65. Cromwell has a 0.03 percent sales tax. Cromwell does not receive a Use Tax disbursement.

The CITY OF BOWLEGS received a $3,434.91 disbursement for March. This was $2,255.89 more than last month’s $1,179.02 disbursement. It was $930.31 more than last year’s $2,504.60 return. Bowlegs has a 0.03 percent sales tax. They do not collect a Use Tax. The CITY OF SASAKWA received a $3,434.91 disbursement for March. This was $1,147.08 more than the $2,287.83 February disbursement and $930.31more than the $2,504.60 disbursement last year. Sasakwa does not collect a Use Tax.
