Seminole County Calls Tax Extension Election
Seminole County officials have called an April 7 election for the extension of a quarter-cent sales tax to fund emergency services throughout the county.
Voters will face three propositions that specify how the revenue from the tax will be distributed. The propositions as they appear on the ballot are below.
PROPOSITION 1 Shall Seminole County, Oklahoma be authorized to extend the current levy and assessment of a county sales tax of 40% of the ¼ cent of one percent (40% to be equally divided to each of the eight fire departments: Bowlegs, Cromwell, Konawa, Maud, Sasakwa, Seminole, Strother and Wewoka) provided that the revenues from such tax be allocated and used for general operations, maintenance, repairs, purchase of equipment and training. Provided further that this tax shall become effective January 1, 2027 and be limited in duration to five (5) years, termination date on December 31, 2031?
PROPOSITION 2 Shall Seminole County, Oklahoma be authorized to extend the current levy and assessment of a county sales tax of 30% of the ¼ cent of one percent (30% to be equally divided to each of the three Ambulance Services: Konawa Ambulance, Seminole Ambulance and Wewoka Ambulance) provided that the revenues from such tax be allocated and used for the Seminole County Ambulance Service purposes, general operations, maintenance, repairs, purchase of equipment and training. Provided further that this tax shall become effective January 1, 2027 and be limited in duration to five (5) years, termination date on December 31, 2031?
PROPOSITION 3 Shall Seminole County, Oklahoma be authorized to extend the current levy and assessment of a county sales tax of 30% of the ¼ cent of one percent provided that the revenues from such tax be allocated and used for County Wide 911 purposes, general operations, maintenance, repairs, purchase of equipment and training. Provided further that this tax shall become effective January 1, 2027 and be limited in duration to five (5) years, termination date on December 31, 2031?
