Phones With Video Function Enabled Discovered In Girls’ Locker Room at Konawa Public Schools

Posted in:

Three phones with their recording functions engaged were discovered hidden in the girls’ locker room of the Konawa High School gym last Friday.

According to a memo sent to parents by Superintendent Karis Reavis, all three phones were placed in the locker room by one student. The student, whose name was not released, received disciplinary action and the matter was turned over to Seminole Nation Lighthorse Police.

A copy of the notification sent to parents appears below.

“Dear Parents, It came to our attention at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday (Dec. 12) that a phone had been placed in the girls’ locker room in the high school gymnasium. Upon discovery, it was determined that a student attempted to conceal the phone while it was recording. The video did not contain any images of other students.

During the investigation, two additional phones being used to record were also discovered. All three devices were placed by the same individual and were immediately turned over to Lighthorse Police for their investigation.

First and foremost, I want you to know that counseling services are available for any of our girls at this time or in the future. In situations like this, the impact of such a violation may not be fully realized until later, and we want to ensure support is available whenever it is needed.

While I am unable to share specific disciplinary actions, I can assure you that appropriate disciplinary (Continued from Page 1) and precautionary measures have been taken to help ensure this does not happen again.

Lastly, while the devices were discovered during the final hour of the school day, we are unable to definitively determine how long they had been in place. Out of an abundance of caution, we are including the parents of junior high girls’ basketball participants in this notification.

If you have any further questions, would like to request counseling for your child, or would simply prefer to come and visit with a school administrator, please feel free to contact Mrs. Jayna Moore, (580-9253221) High School Principal, or Mr. Jeff Tompkins, Dean of Students. (580925-3221).”

The memo was apparently sent directly to some parents/guardians and was not posted on the school’s website or social media page. It was, however, circulated in Facebook groups.
