Oklahoma Gas and Electric’s (OG&E) franchise agreement with the Town of Lima is up for renewal in a special election to be held April 7.

Registered voters in that district will be asked to grant OG&E a 25-year franchise agreement. The ballot reads as follows: “Shall a franchise be granted to the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company, a corporation, its successors and assigns giving it the right to produce, transmit and distribute electricity within the Town and to sell electricity therein for all purposes for which it may be used, to the Town, its inhabitants and the public generally, and the right to construct, maintain and operate a system of poles, wires, conduits and other facilities and equipment in, upon, across, under and over streets, alleys, public grounds or ways in the Town for such purposes, for a period of twenty-five (25) years; providing compensation to the Town; in accordance with the terms of Ordinance Number 2025-01, passed and approved by the Board of Trustees of the Town of Lima, Oklahoma, on the 20th day of November, 2025?”

New Lima voters will also decide a school board race between John Henson and Jessica Shaw-Hinton on April 7. In addition, all Seminole County voters will face a proposed extension of a countywide quarter-cent sales tax to fund emergency services.

Several school board seats are up for grabs across Seminole County on April 7. Stephen Choate and Tyler Geohagan are vying for Seat #1 on the Seminole School Board. Candidates for the Strother School Board include Stacy Dunn and Ashley Fowler. Voters in the Maud Public School District will choose between Kurtis Dustman and Jaclyn Porterfield for Office #1 on the school board. They will also decide the fate of a $500,000 bond proposal.

The deadline for registering to vote in the upcoming election is this Friday, March 13.
