Nance Reelected as Ward 3 Councilman

Hastings, Kincade Advance to General Election in Wewoka Mayoral Race

Municipal elections across Seminole County ended Tuesday with the reelection of an incumbent and a three-way mayoral race whittled down to only two candidates.

In the City of Seminole, Ward Three City Councilman Jeff Nance, who was appointed to the post last April, handily defeated his challenger George Gates by a vote of 40-11. Only 5.6% of the 901 eligible voters in that ward participated in the election.

Nance on Wednesday thanked his constituents for reelecting him and said he would seek divine guidance as he continues his twoyear term on the Council.

“I would like to thank Ward 3 for the privilege of serving our community. It is my great honor to sit on the council with the hopes and prayers of doing great things for our city,” Nance said. My constant prayer is that God grant us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding on the council to make a wonderful place to live and raise our families. Thank you again for all those who voted and for those who helped me in this election cycle. I love this place.”

In Wewoka, Keith Kincade and Ann Hastings will face off this spring for the position of mayor. Kincade, Hastings and Cheryl Legg filed for the post and, per statute, the two candidates with the most votes on Feb. 10 now advance to the general election, slated for April 7. Kincade received 70 votes, Hastings claimed 40 and Legg received only 15 votes. Tom Ryan currently serves as mayor, and he did not file for reelection.

Also on April 7, Steven Choate and Tyler Geohagan will go head-to-head for a seat on the Seminole Public School Board currently held by Marci Donaho, who is not seeking reelection. John Henson will face Jessica Shaw-Hinton for a spot on the New Lima School Board, and in the Strother School District, there will be a contest between Stacy Dunn and Ashley Fowler for school board office number one.
