Man Hit by Vehicle on I-40 Sunday

Posted in:

Interstate 40 was shut down at the Seminole exit in both directions for nearly an hour Sunday morning after an auto vs. pedestrian accident left one man in critical condition.

At 11:22 a.m. on March 2, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported that all eastbound and westbound lanes were closed beginning at mile marker 200 due to the collision. The closure lasted until 12:11 p.m., according to the OHP.

The pedestrian, whose name had not been released as of press time, was flown to the Oklahoma Medical Center. According to Merrick Ashby, EMS Supervisor for the City of Seminole, the patient was admitted in critical condition. A Life Flight helicopter reportedly landed in the westbound lane of the interstate to transport the victim.

Motorists were urged to detour south on Highway 99 then take 99A west to Highway 3 and get on the interstate from Highway 9A at Earlsboro. Multiple people posted on social media that traffic was “backed up for miles” along the detour routes.
