Local Vietnam Veteran Chosen For Honor Flight
Seminole resident Roy Boydstun, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War, has been selected to participate in the upcoming Oklahoma Warriors Honor Flight mission to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to those who served in the armed forces.
Boydstun served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970, achieving the rank of Corporal (E-4). During his service he worked in artillery, supporting Marine combat operations during the Vietnam War.
Boydstun is one of 69 Oklahoma Veterans from communities across the state selected for this Honor Flight mission. The program provides veterans the opportunity to visit the memorials built in recognition of their service and sacrifice.
Boydstun said this will not be his first Honors Flight, as he accompanied his wife’s uncle, Ben, on an earlier flight.
“On that flight my wife, Mary, asked if they planned to honor Vietnam veterans. They said ‘yes,’ and shortly after that we were notified that I was first on the list to go,” Boydstun said.
“It’s quite an honor to get to go on this flight. Veterans all over the world work for this country. Those of us who served in Vietnam were proud to do it, and we still are today,” Boydstun added.
Oklahoma Warriors Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring Oklahoma veterans by transporting them to Washington, D.C. at no cost to the veteran. Each flight costs approximately $130,000 and is funded entirely through donations and community support.
Community members are invited to attend the public events surrounding the April mission, including the Send-Off Ceremony on April 13 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa and the Welcome Home Celebration at Tulsa International Airport on April 14.

About the Honor Flight Network Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit organization comprised of independent hubs working together to achieve the Honor Flight mission. In furtherance of this common goal, it has the enormous privilege of showing our nation’s veterans the appreciation and honor they deserve.
Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the opportunity to share this momentous occasion with other comrades, remember the fallen, and share their stories and experiences with other veterans. Honored veterans always travel free of charge, thanks to generous donations to our organization.
While initially focused solely on America’s World War II era veterans, Honor Flight Network has expanded its mission to include those who served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War eras. The Honor Flight TLC program also honors veterans of any service era who are critically ill.
In order to maximize the number of American veterans served by our organization, each eligible veteran may only be honored on a single Honor Flight trip.
