Flag Flies in Honor of Fallen Soldier

Posted in:

American Legion Post 204 is flying a special flag the month of November in honor of a fallen soldier who served during the Vietnam War.

This month’s flag, which flies in Veterans Park north of the Seminole Municipal Building, honors Kenneth Gouker, who passed away in December 2021.

Gouker was born Oct. 19, 1946, in Prague, Oklahoma to Bill and Annie (Winkleman) Gouker. He spent most of his life in Prague and Meeker and graduated from Prague High School. Gouker served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

After his stint in the military, Gouker retired after 30 years as a delivery driver for Sullivan’s Wholesale. He married Darla Spoon on May 4, 2007 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. His obituary states that he loved to play with his dog, Charlie, and play on his iPad.

The local American Legion post honors a different deceased veteran each month, part of a national effort to bring awareness to local fallen service members. All veterans that have passed away are eligible to be honored. To nominate someone, contact Post Commander Carl Odom at (405) 380-4615.
