Early Voting Starts Thursday In Seminole County Elections
Early voting will be available this coming Thursday and Friday in the April 7 elections across Seminole County.
Elections include a proposed extension of a countywide quarter-cent sales tax to fund emergency services. All registered voters in Seminole County are eligible to vote in that election.
Several school board seats are also up for grabs on April 7. Stephen Choate and Tyler Geohagan are vying for Seat #1 on the Seminole School Board. Candidates for the Strother School Board include Stacy Dunn and Ashley Fowler. John Henson and Jessica Shaw-Hinton will face off for the seat on the New Lima School Board.
Voters in the Maud Public School District will choose between Kurtis Dustman and Jaclyn Porterfield for Office #1 on the school board. They will also decide the fate of a $500,000 bond proposal.
A special election will also take place April 7 in the Town of Lima for the renewal of the town’s franchise agreement with OG&E.
Seminole County Election Board Secretary Amy Baker said early voting is open to all voters.
“You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the County Election Board or State Election Board—from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on Election Day or who want to avoid long lines,” Baker said.
Early voting is available Thursday, April 2 and Friday, April 3 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Seminole County Election Board located at 200 S. Brown in Wewoka. Baker reminds voters that early voting is not available at polling locations.
Some voters may need assistance to vote because they are blind or visually disabled, physically disabled or infirmed, or illiterate. Such individuals may request to have an assistant or vote privately and independently using the ATI device attached to the voting device. Those who require assistance should talk to their precinct official or contact the County Election Board directly for instructions.
